Three students expelled by varsity authorities

No less than three students of the Edo University Iyamho, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State have been expelled by the varsity's authorities over alleged misconduct.

The disclosure was made by the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor,  Monday, March 20, 2017, during a press briefing prior to the varsity's maiden founder's day and second matriculation ceremonies.
However, he noted that the offences were not cult related.
Aluyor said, “Edo University has zero tolerance to social vices and cultism. Even though we are one year old and not having too many students, we had cause to expel three students, not necessary for cult-related activities.
“Edo University has no cultism on campus and to ensure that we do not have cultism, we must have zero tolerance for the kind of activities that can lead to cultism.
“By that, I mean something like two students fighting or a student issuing a threat to other students. Once we identify such a student we show him or her the way out.‎”
He also addressed speculations that the institution was privately owned, emphasizing that the university is 100 percent state-owned.
Aluyor explained that founder's day lectures would be delivered on Thursday, March 23, 2017, by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Augustine Alegeh, SAN; and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Prof. Felix Okonofua.
The acting VC said that through the provision of modern teaching and learning facilities the Faculties of Sciences and Arts and Social Sciences, the institution has continued to promote qualitative education since it opened its doors in 2016.
Aluyor added that the University has received approval to begin an academic program in the college of medicine from the Nigerian Universities Commission.
